My little brother surprised me with a call yesterday to tell me he's going to law school with the aim of entering the political arena in some fashion. Maybe someday we'll be debating his candidacy in a TOK Senate thread.;)
By the way, he's a Republican. His wife makes too much money for them to be Dems.

This assumption has always driven me nuts. I've been a Republican since my early 20's and I have never been rich. To the contrary, I've probably seen more financial struggles than almost anyone on this board. I credit much of my ascent out of those troubles to the way I refused to rely on big government and by the optimistic attitude that is more common among Republicans than Democrats.* Also, if you look at who controls the Democrats, it's all big money: George Soros, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, John Rockefeller, Warren Buffet, Gary Winnick et al. When you throw in the big money from Hollywood, the Dems have far more big money than the Republicans.
Good luck to your brother. I'd love to hear more about his journey.
*This isn't opinion, but neither is it fact. It is the result of several surveys. If anyone wants, I'll be happy to try to track down those surveys.

If I haven't got you beat, I'm pretty sure I'm neck and neck with you on that one. My early career was in small and medium market newsradio, followed by nearly a decade in the arts.
While we both know on which side of the political aisle I tend to fall, I believe strongly in government fiscal responsibility and, quite frankly, think both parties have failed miserably in safeguarding America's purse.
I also believe that the problem is so manifest, no one man, or even Congress, can fix it.
Unmonitored social programs are as big a threat to our national economy as the gross mishandling of contracts for rebuilding Middle-East countries or even compensating 9/11 or Katrina victims.
This nation sucks ass at money management.

I should have put a "wink" smiley at the end of that sentence. I don't actually subscribe to that philosophy, it's just something I say to my brother to annoy him. He used to be a Dem but changed parties right about the time his wife received a huge promotion that includes annual bonuses in excess of $250K. It's my sibling right...nay, my DUTY, to irritate my little brother whenever possible.:)

Wish him the best of luck. I always hope that some fresh blood in politics would change the status quo.
