This was the first Christmas in 5 years that i didn't have to work...and what happens:
I get sick.
Not just sick, but very sick and highly contagious according to my doctor.
And the best part is I can expect it to last another 7-10 days.
Not even Baltar deserves this.
That sucks. Hopefully, your recovery from this will be speedy and uneventful.

Cavalier -
Count me as another member that was in "sick bay" over the Christmas holiday. At the moment, I'm not working and I was all set to travel to Southern California to visit my family for the first time in many years. For once, scheduling travel wasn't an issue.
I was going to drive down on Sunday, visit with my mom and my youngest brother's family and see my aunt and uncle all in one trip and then I was going to drive back home on Wednesday (today).
I got all my shopping done before the weekend and everything. On Saturday, I started having what I thought was a sinus problem - nothing major. During the night, it got a little worse. I thought that it was no big deal, so I called my mom and said that I would probably be a day late. I stayed in bed on Sunday and just for good measure with the intent to be on the road Monday morning. By Sunday night, it was really bad and I told my mom that I wasn't sure at that point what the deal was. On Sunday night, it took me until 1am to drop off because I had to keep shifting postion to breathe comfortably and Monday night, I was up until nearly 4am with the same issue. I got about 6 hours of sleep in those 2 days.
I stayed in bed all day Monday - taking plenty of fluids, a decongestant and eating only the right things while having a cold, but it lasted through the majority of Christmas as well - In the meantime, I talked to my mom and other relatives by phone as I wasn't able to visit during the holiday itself. By last night, the symptoms had at least let up to the point were I could breathe comfortably and get a decent night's rest. I got to sleep before 11pm and I didn't get up until 7am or so. This morning, I still sounded a bit congested, but felt worlds better. I'm still taking a decongestant thru tomorrow just be be sure that I'm fully over it.
It took me completely by surprise. I haven't had a cold in the past 4 years running. I've been around all kinds of sick people in years past and I never even got close to catching a cold from them. I guess that the law of averages caught up with me this year.... The last time I was sick during Christmas, I was 11 years old, so it's been a verrry long time since I was down for the count during a holiday.
Cavalier - I hope you get better soon. It's certainly no fun being ill during this time of year.
Regards,
Bryan

Well, I would suggest reading Dracula by Bram Stoker. You will find, that at the time, should anyone have the slightest sniffle, Brandy was the common cure all.
I highly suggest you take in some Brandy. For medicinal purposes of course.

I know how you feel. My little girl started day care right after Thanksgiving. Since then, she's brought home 2 seperate colds and an intestinal bug. For me, top it off with some food poisoning.
My wife and I had to miss my wife's grandfather's 106th birthday. I had to miss another family birthday, and on our way to a family gathering the week before Christmas I got very sick with the second cold and sinus infection. I haven't really felt well since Thanksgiving.
We've nicknamed our little girl Da Contaminator (in Ahnold speak).
Hope everyone gets well soon.

Brandy is very cute as well. Which helps immensly.

We were all sick over Christmas, except for my daughter (and she's had enough wacky illnesses since the end of Oct. that she deserved the "get out of jail free" card on this one.
finally felt like myself today.

I got sick AT Christmas. Seems to happen every year anymore.
I think I'm allergic to my idiot brother in law.
My wife got sick the evening of the 26th through the day and evening on Thursday. Couldn't keep anything down as well as uncooperative sinuses and a general achy feeling. Slept most of the day and night. Felt and looked much better on Friday.
I got sick Thanksgiving night. All that good food wasted........
I actually missed a couple days of work, too, but it settled into a really annoying head-cold that lasted until last week. I've still got a bit of a sniffle and cough, though - but nothing that will spoil tonight's party or New Year's.
Knock wood.

Kids had runny noses and coughs for Christmas.
Three guesses who has them now just in time for New Years ?

You have my sympathy.
I've now got a week off and I've got another fucking virus. I had a nasty one before Christmas that involved me going for a chest x-ray at one point yet I didn't have a day off work and that lasted 10 days.

It's a plague...the beginning of the end is here!
But seriously, it's been a really bad cold season for everyone I know. Getting a cold, and then just when it looks like they're getting rid of it, another sets in. Happened to me, too. When are they going to develop a "cold shot"? I got the flu shot, but that hasn't helped me one bit.
Calli
Flu shots have always helped me in years past - I didn't get one last year and I got sick.
So last week I got a flu shot.
There does seem to be an increase in colds and flu this year over last year, though. My sympathies to those afflicted, particularly during the holidays. It's a rotten time to be sick.
