Woo-hoo!! I may have been kicked out of Wizards of the Coast's Star War RPG forum.
WotC's come out with brand new sets of rules for their RPG's. They've got D&D, Fourth Edition and Star Wars, Saga Edition. The quality control has been ... well, there hasn't been any quality control, and that's the problem. I'm most familiar with Star Wars, Saga Edition, but apparently 4th Ed is just as bad, quality wise, according to sources I've heard from.
Anyway, because the rules are so badly written, rife with errors of all kinds and inconsistencies between the books, the game's players are left to try and interpret the rules themselves, as best they can. In one particular thread, one little pissant was claiming that only his interpretation was correct, and everyone else need to get in line with him. I wrote back that he didn't have the authority to tell everone else how to think, and that barring guidance from the game's developers, his opinion was no less an interpretation than anyone else's. My response got yanked by the forum's moderators as "baiting," and I've not been able to access the site ever since (not even as guest - I'm assuming they've flagged my IP address or some such).
I have to laugh, actually. I've been kicked out of better places, so it's no skin off my nose. But the more I learn of peoples attempts at empire-building, the more I see the wisdom in comments like this:

Wow, I read the forums a lot as well and usually you get some sort of a warning before you get banned. That is kind of messed up, as I would think saying that my way of thinking was the only way to think would be baiting as well.
Ahh well, I still prefer WEG Star Wars anyway :D
Making a guess, I would say that you probably argued with someone "connected".

Ditto! WEG was simple to play, yet sophisticated enough to hold up with all those d20 games....and it only used D6 dice. :) My friends and I had many epic adventures under the West End Games system.

Phoenix Command all the way baby. When roleplaying needed real men and women to understand and implement the rules. :)
Steve, I have to agree with you on the WotC rulesets--I have recently had the misfortune of being cajoled into playing D&D4E and man, was it a bad experience. Bad enough that I will never play it again.
No great loss to lose access to the WotC forums. 4E is one of those game systems where the hardcore 4E gamers tend to adopt a tribal mentality and attack anyone they see as having a different opinion.
Oh well. My philosophy on things like that is LTS--Life's too Short.

Phoenix Command. Wasn't that the game made by the same company who made the ALIENS Role Playing Game? If it was...then damn, you're right. The mathematics and rules involved in THOSE games were staggering. :) The nice thing about the ALIENS RPG, you got a LOT of cool information about the aliens and the Colonial Marines, and Weyland Yutani and her corporate enemies.
I haven't played D&D in forever, and truthfully have never been a real connoisseur of D&D editions, so I couldn't really say whether it was bad or good.
But Star Wars from WEG....those were the days. :)

The Starwars saga edition is not so bad, not great either but not that bad. However 4th ED. is seeming more and more like the answer to a question that nobody asked.
I would happily stay far away from it but of course it is all my gaming group wants to play right now.

Really? My group had the opposite response. After thumbing through 4E, my group was so disgusted and appalled that we actually dusted off our old origina AD&D books (pre-1980's Unearthed Arcana), and played of few games of that. My take on 4E isn't that the game sucks ... rather, it's just not D&D, nor is it really D20.

My group played a few games of 4E. We rapidly decided..."Never Again!" The problem with 4E is that it's pretty soul-less in making everything that is amazing and fantastic about the world of D&D completely mundane and unextraordinary. We ended up playing Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying for a few sessions afterwards to cleanse the foul taste of 4E from our mouths.

Oh Yeah.
Though we haven't played any longer adventures yet, just a few one-shots. So I am hoping their opinion will change with more exposure.
I would really like to get back to Savage Worlds myself.

I also think it's lame when you're kicked off a forum and without just cause.
