I don't think their costumes are so bad. It's Halloween. Although my son has dressed as Jason and as Leatherface on previous Halloween nights, I'm quite certain he is not going to grow up to be a serial killer. And he has not been traumatized by any of my outlandish Halloween costumes.

As for how Kate's daughter (Lily) is dressed, she's actually dressed more conservatively here than I have seen in her day-to-day life, which is disturbing in itself.

In general, I have no problem with kids dressing up as serial killers, because society doesn't tolerate that sort of behavior. I wouldn't allow my daughter to dress up as a slut however, regardless of her age, because children (particularly girls) are being told everywhere that being a slut is OK ... desireable, even.

I don't have a problem with my daughter growing up to become a sexual being. I have a big problem with her losing perspective on the relative importance of sex, however. In life, sex should be a side dish, not the main course. Like myself, I paint nudes (females in particular) because I personally find the female form to be aesthetically pleasing. That does not mean I want to boink every model I've ever painted.
