View Full Version : Stinking Car Rental :(

OK. Recently I had damage to my car and the insurance company got me a rental car through Enterprise. When I was picked up, I thought that they way overfragranced the car when they cleaned it and it was a little hard on my allergies. Then the fragrance began wearing off and I realized that it was hiding the odor of pot. I'm a non-smoker and I personally find the odor of pot to be disgusting.

At first I thought that my nose may have been playing a trick on me, but today it was parked in the sun with the windows up and when I went to lunch the odor was unmistakeable. It seems that the kid who picked me up had been doing some joy riding with buddies on his way over. This was confirmed when I spoke with one of our security guys who had spoken with the kid before I got to the car. The guard said it was unmistakable what had been going on.

I called Enterprise to let them know that I don't smoke and that this car reeks. I did not indicate that I thought that the kid who drove the car over to me was the culprit. Their answer was to simply air it out and to deduct 1/4 tank of gass off my refill. I'm debating whether it is worth my time to pursue an exchange since I've already wasted a bunch of time this week trying to get my transportation issues squared away.

Overall though, I'm not happy with this particular branch of Enterprise.

Let corporate know about it.

Often times, they are out of the loop, unless we consumers fill out those nice little survey postcards that they send to us.

Seriously, though, let them know how you feel about this entire scenario and about the muted response you received from the local Enterprise office. (You may want to gently drop a hint that there are plenty of other car rental agencies available and that you might just use one of them the next time, as a comparison, of course.)

;)

Did you by chance read my story of woe and despair at the hands of Enterprise? Well ... partially at their hands, anyway. The short version is we ended up renting two vehicles from them so we could go on vacation. The first car died half-way through the trip. The second vehicle died on the way home. Both died due to poor maintenance.

Yeah, I won't be renting from Enterprise anymore.

Oh my God... I remember that story. It's a wonder you kept your sanity.

I remember that story. I had forgotten that it was Enterprise, though.

I don't feel that this is a problem with the brand, but rather one or two employees and maybe the way operations and personel are handled at a particular branch.

The car spent last night in the garage with the windows down. Hopefully that'll help.

Perhaps. Still, I have had bad experiences with Enterprise involve two different offices across two seperate states. Now I hear of your problems. To me this is sounding more and more like a systemic problem, at least in their hiring policies if nothing else.

I've never had a problem with Enterprise before but your example is enlightening.

I've also had very good experiences with Avis and Hertz.

UPDATE: I think it's getting to me. During lunch today, I had to stop and get a bag of Doritos. :)
