I don't really know how to feel about what I just saw.
I'm sure that veryone knows how California has been dealing with the consequences of fires in the state for the past few weeks. The number of fires has gone down dramatically since this has all started, but the combination of the smoke and recent weather patterns has produced some rather unpleasant results.
The week prior to the 4th of July, the temperatures weren't too bad, but we had very smoky conditions here in the Sacramento valley for at least a week. The weekend prior to the 4th, the winds changed and it cooled just a bit and the smoke disappeared for the most part.
Well, with the recent high pressure system that moved over the state a few days ago, temperatures have soared up to the century mark - today's high is predicted to be 110 degrees. As if the heat wasn't the worst of it, today the smoke seems even thicker than it has been in recent days. It's so bad, it looks like it's overcast/foggy, but it isn't fog, it's smoke hanging in the air. The air has a very heavy, almost humid feel to it, but the smell is unmistakable of something burning somewhere.
The oddest thing is that there isn't a fire within 75 miles of Sacramento. I just checked the Calif Dept of Forestry website to confirm that.
It's just eerie looking outside. It's so dark and the color of the sunlight has this pale orange tint to it. Coupled with the heat, it's a very unhealthy day outside.
