This is mostly for the people who A) Use XP and B) Use Zone Alarm. IF you have downloaded the latest "update" from MS it is going to kill your connection to the internet. 3 Fixes that I've found online are
1) Don't install the update. Wait until it gets stable, disable your automatic updates.
2) Uninstall the update. Should be able to go into "Add/remove programs"
3) Set your Zone Alarm settings from "High" to "Medium" I'm not at home but that is the solution that got my wifes computer online.

Of course - if your computer can't get online this isn't going to help you - but if you can read it from another PC that DOES hopefully I can save you some grief.

If anyone else has some good suggestions please add!

Cheers - and back to the gulag for me.

All XP users who resist Vista should begin the transistion to Linux.

It isn't totally painless, but it gets the user free of Microsoft.

Any computer that is just browsing, sending email, and sorting family pictures is an excellent candidate for an upgrade to Linux. if you don't have kids playing 3D games on the box, there will not be much in the way of problems to making the transition.

Running Linux squeezes extra years out of older machines. Rather than buy a machine to get a crappy Vista upgrade, wait it out. Buy behind the curve and save money.

I'm resisting both Linux and Vista.

Though my new laptop came with Vista and I hate it... I hated XP too... oh well!

I do too much on my comp to switch to Linux.

If the "too much" does not involve playing games, then Linux will do it just fine.

This was part of the recent massive covert DNS upgrade.
