Critics in their reviews are beginning to wake up to the tired gimmick of the reimagination. Perhaps bright days will return to the Hollywood imagination machine.

Glad to hear it! Can I get an "A-men!"

The critics are starting to admit a few things about the "best show on television" in the process.
"Unfortunately, like so many basic cable channels, Sci Fi is a devotee of the cult of the "signature show," a highly visible hit that is then replicated throughout the schedule. For Sci Fi, that means applying the bleak, violent, unyieldingly unpleasant revisionist outlook of Battlestar Galactica to as many projects as possible — including its six-hour Wizard of Oz remake, Tin Man."

I think they stole the phrase "unyieldingly unpleasant" from me.

1.2 is highly visible? Would USA Today remain a "highly visible" publication with a physical distribution equivalent to a 1.2 rating?
Make no mistake, I'm happy to see a mainstream critic finally call GINO on what it is... but I see he still couldn't help but falsely credit the show with being a "highly visible hit."

With all the advertising that that show got, that could be part of what mad eup the quote.

From another...give it a chance. :D
NBC's "Bionic Woman" is an unspectacular remake. The Sci Fi's "Flash Gordon" is even worse than anything I've written about so far. And my feelings about the new "Battlestar" are the same: It's a spiritless, uninvolving trip through space.
Breathing new life into an old story takes smarts, a lot of heart and certainly the courage to do things that seem risky.
"Tin Man," like the characters in it, doesn't have any of those things. And the people who come up with these idiotic remakes don't either.

Am in need of watching another train wreck.

The ads on the Sci-Fi Channel for Tin Man have been interesting.
Last week and before they were stressing the "darker" aspects. Today while watching Stargate (the movie), the ad for Tin Man was stressing stuff like "colorful", "inventive" and showing lots of fantasy-type costumes.
Maybe the bleak ratings for Razor finally sent a message to someone at Sci-Fi.

Where did this quote come from? An old college friend was in town for Thanksgiving, and we discussed GINO. Unfortunately, he turned out to be a koolaid drinker. He spouted out pretty much the party line, calling the original "cheesey" and calling the new one "more realistic." I brought up the events of 911, and asked which show better mirrored that reality, BSG or GINO? Shortly after that, we agreed to disagree. I'd love to be able to point him to some "deprogramming" materials.

'Tin Man' proves its mettle
SciFi Channel's miniseries finds ratings gold
By JOSEF ADALIAN
SciFi Channel's "Tin Man" looks like ratings gold, with Sunday's premiere installment of the six-hour miniseries notching the cabler's biggest ratings ever.
According to prelim fast national Nielsen data, night one of the "Wizard of Oz"-inspired mini attracted 6.4 million total viewers, 3.4 million of whom were adults 18-49. That bettered the 6.1 million who tuned in for the premiere of Steven Spielberg's "Taken," previously the most watched cablecast on the NBC U net.
"Tin Man" also gave Sci Fi its biggest demo ratings ever, outshining "Dune" in adults 18-49 and "Taken" among viewers 25-54.
Strong ratings for "Tin Man" come despite a spate of mixed-to-negative reviews for the project. Sci Fi invested heavily in promotion for the event, the latest in a string of December miniseries the cabler has run in recent years.

It will be interesting to see whether those ratings hold for the second night. Did anyone here watch? Is it as wretched as the critics have suggested?

I watched the first half hour of it.... I could see what they were shooting for, but I was also very distracted as to how far they were straying from the original premise.
One thing I noted is that the production design looked like what Skiffy shoud have been using for it's Flash Gordon TV series. Now I know where all that money went, it went to Tin Man instead....
I don't know, I might give it a second chance on one of the rebroadcasts, but I had no idea that this thing was a 3-parter to begin with.

Bryan Flash Gordon uses the exact same sets as Tin Man for Mings Palace and so forth.
I watched the first part. Was ok in parts. But boring as fuck in others. If the story does not evolve in the first half hour of the second part. Then they will lose me.

I still have a hard time wrapping my head around the thought process that led to this. But I'm not hearing anything from the folks here that watched any part of it that leads me to believe I made a mistake by skipping it.
I guess the only Skiffy original I've ever watched, which I kind of enjoyed, was The Triangle.

It's not the worst thing skiffy has ever done, and that's even if you discount their mistreatment of BSG, but no, it has nothing on The Triangle.

Triangle was pretty freaking cool. This Tin Man thing has bored the crap out of me.

I think that the one thing that surprises me is the ratings.... Am I that out of touch with what's considered good television these days? I'm starting to feel very old.
It appears that Tin Man is one of those "love it, or hate it" things. I'm reading posts over at Skiffy on how some people love it and others that hated it so far. I had some chick over at Skiffy bust my nuts over the fact that I bailed on it after the first 45 minutes and had the nerve to critique it when I never finished watching it.
What was I supposed to do? Sit there like a prisoner for 2 hours when it was boring me silly? I thought that's why we were given a remote, 200 channels and a bit of free will. The numbers for the 9pm hour tonight should be interesting - Heroes is having the season finale...you do the math.

I was not able to catch part two (yet) but I did enjoy part one. It was different enough for me to knot totally associate with WoO, but at the same time had a few references that made me and the wife laugh. Is it the best thing on TV? No. I thought it was fun for the most part - and wouldn't mind seeing it again.
I think subconsciously everyone wants to root for the bad guy - it's usually why they have the better costume than the heroes ;)

Yeah, I'm not too concerned either. My wife spoke a bit about it liking it, so that will make me want to finish it. There will be a marathon at some point - and I'll catch it then.

Next Sunday, Skiffy is running all 3 parts, one after the other in one shot. If I'm going to watch it at all, it'll be then.

It is the same set. They just changed some colors when they shot FG.
It was a cost saving measure.
Tin Man shot first, then they got the contract for FG, and used the set and props for Mongo.
