View Full Version : Ever wonder about this?

Hey people...
I've always wondered about something - Have your ever been curious as to what BSG:TNS would look/sound like if it had a bit more of a TOS feel to it? Well, apparently someone else did. One of my fellow members over at the New Voyages website took the TNS footage from the title and added a "TOS touch" to it.
I think that it improves things quite a bit - what do you think?:

Agreed. I know too much about it. Any juxtaposition of that revered musical score and those abhorrent images does nothing but make me angry.
After watching that, I want to punch something. Or someone. Anybody seen my boss?

Oh...
And deleting my post in addition to changing my wording in another post? How exactly is this place any better than the Skiffy board if the administration of this forum does the same things?

I don't know what you're talking about Bryan.
I strongly suggest you make it clear so I do.

You know what Bryan? We're trying to debate the situation despite your insults but if you want to push the issue fine. Take a fucking break!l

Guys, I think I know what Bryan's talking about as far as "changing his words".
It's that filter that's in place so that when someone types in the letters "T N S" (letters spaced for demonstrative purpose).... you get TNS.
I can see his point of view....I mean, a word filter does kinda change the expression one wishes to use when making an opinion or point of view. In effect, it puts words in one's mouth.
I mean, I most certainly don't mean to say TNS when I really mean "T N S", but, perhaps the powers that be here simply have a twisted sense of humor. :) (I mean that most amicably, guys.)
To look at it from the other side, imagine what it would be like if you typed in "The One and Only Battlestar Galactica", only to have it come back as "that late 70's childrens' show"? Hmmm...most certainly not what a fan (or advocate) of the original series would have expressed in a million years.
I offer these only as respectable counterpoints, and of course, a defense of Bryan, who as we all know is one of the nicest folks in our little community.
We all know that sometimes we tend to have (no disrespect, Bryan) knee-jerk reactions to some things. (I am far more guilty than anyone here, probably.) I've known about the "T N S/TNS" filter for a while...but I thought everyone else did too. Let's just remember, we are all mostly nice folks here....entitled to a bad day, every now and again.....or in my case.... a little more frequently. :D (Being a Klingon ain't easy ya know.....Q'apla this....honor that....Sto'Vo'Kor and Gret'hor...blah blah blah) :D
Respectfully to all concerned,

OK, now that I've calmed down...
Bryan took issue that one of our few word-filters that changes the inaccurate anagram T N S to the descriptive anagram GINO. Taggart and I were online at the time and were unaware of the substitution. We have since determined that the word filter was put into use by Bishop quite some time ago.
There is no problem with asking about it or questioning the word substitution. However Bryan got angry and accused us of putting "slurs" into people's mouths. That really infuriated me. More so than I have been on this board in years. "Wap" is a slur. I use that as an example because I've been called it. We're all familiar with many disgusting slurs. For anyone to compare a descriptive anagram to something like that upset and angered me. So I deleted the post. That was a decision motivated simply by my anger and I admit it. In over four years of moderating and/or owning the board that's the first time I've done that and it was a mistake. I would have apologized if given the time.
However, while we were further debating the issue Bryan struck back with his above comparison of us to the skiffy board. That was enough. Rule 4 states "Any disruptive behavior deemed too troublesome for the moderator staff will also get you banned at the sole discretion of the administrator or any active moderator." Bryan got himself a 24 hour ban and that was not a mistake. His ban will be lifted at noon tomorrow.
I will have another post detailing language and "GINO" soon since somehow, after all these years, some still don't get it. After that, I too will take a 24 hour ban for my initial act of anger motivated stupidity.
"Wap" is a slur.
I think you meant "wop" :P

Would you like to educated me on the proper spelling of other real slurs? I actually didn't have time to write them down and check the thesaurus as a kid when I was called them so please, by all means.

I have another one, but it's kind of a flip-flop from the first video...
It's footage from the Skiffy version of BSG, and it's got the Stu Phillips theme, but it's a reworked version by Bear McCreary who does the soundtrack for the series. The reworked version starts out with a slow, wistful feeling to it and then builds to the main theme that we all know so well. I actually liked it so much, I bought a copy of the Season 2 soundtrack to get it on CD. I've got like 4 different versions of the Stu Phillips BSG theme at home and I wanted to add this one to the collection.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't "enjoy." I don't think a lot of people here would.
GINO is just that... and any juxtaposition with Battlestar Galactica is, well, a slur against Battlestar Galactica.
I'll pass. But do let me know if you find anything interesting on YouTube.

That arangement is perhaps the only true good thing to come out of GINO. McCreary deserves credit for being perhaps the only one on this production, showing true respect for what came before.
With the footage and "updated" Philips theme music, it is probably as close as I'm going to see what a true continuation might/could have looked like.
Thanks for sharing, Bryan!

Bryan,
I'm sorry to see that you were the victim of the worst abuse of moderator powers in CA history.
For the staff,
The staff here isn't supposed to consider the membership as an enemy and this isn't supposed to be a hate site.

Worst abuse ever huh Sandy? I suppose calling for someone's permanent banning because you don't like their politics is fine and dandy.
Newsflash, this is not your site anymore. Please stop speaking like it is. This issue had been discussed and dealt with by us at considerable length. I know you consider yourself an authority on everything but in this case you are most definitely not.
Actually, as an "abuse" this is fairly mild.
I may have misread Sandy's note but I thought he was being funny. The "hate site" bit twigged me on that I don't think he was being serious.

Newsflash yourself. Read the hidden forum.
I'm about two steps from killing the entire domain.
... and yes, you have been nothing but a complete embarassment ever since you wormed your way into this ownership position ... the position I specifically said I did not want you to hold when I stepped down and handed CA to Bill and Peter ... not you because I knew how you would treat those who sinned and said they liked something about GINO.
Furthermore, in addition to the notice in the hidden forum, there was one condition when I gave the site over and that was that if I did want the site back, all I'd have to do was say so and it was mine again.
You don't recall that because you hadn't whined your way into the position yet but I am now exercising that option and calling to resume ownership.
Consider that a second newsflash.

I wish there was a cheat code for the PS2 Battlestar Galactica videogame so that I could kill the H.U.D. data, and make a cool "machinma" FX movie for the classic series fans.
It's an awful lot of work to try and Photoshop out those blips, bleeps, sweeps, and creeps. :D
(I realize, completely unrelated....but....I figured maybe a little levity....and some sincerity...might be in order.) :)
Respectfully to all,

I've seen stuff like this before, knowing what I know now if this was the season four opener I'd be more angry. If I knew nothing but this opened 99% of GINO episodes I'd be angry. It was well done for what it is and even as I hate GINO there was a tug.

I think what started this is the non-stop playing of X-mas music on the radio from the day after Halloween. It's making people go NUTS.
