Some good news for fans of Who and "La Piper"....
Billie Piper to return to Dr Who
Actress Billie Piper is to return to Doctor Who, the BBC has confirmed.
She will star in three episodes of the sci-fi drama, reprising her role as the Doctor's companion, Rose Tyler.
Rose's return will mean the Doctor has three assistants in next year's series - Donna, played by Catherine Tate, and Freema Agyeman as Martha.
The new series begins in March and will run for 13 episodes. There will be three special editions in 2009 before the show takes a break until 2010.
Piper left Doctor Who last year, when she was transported into a parallel universe.
Her character had proven a hit and the star won a number of awards for her performances. She was named most popular actress at the National Television Awards in 2005 and 2006.
A separate show based on Rose had been planned by writer and series producer Russell T Davies, but was scrapped when Davies decided the programme was "a spin-off too far".
Filming is currently under way in Cardiff for the new series of Doctor Who, which sees the Doctor meeting an old group of enemies - the Sontarans - 35 years after first encountering them.
Before that, the programme will return to television screens at Christmas with a special episode set on the Titanic, which will co-star singer and actress Kylie Minogue.

The article I posted came off the BBC website and was dated 11/27/07. I thought that I remembered the same thing, so I double checked before I posted it.

So was the report that Davros was going to be back as well.
Also I thought I heard that Captain Jack would also be in the final three episodes again for series four.
All they need now is Elisabeth Sladen and they would have one whopper of a finale, especially if the main villain IS Davros. I mean we know the Sontarans will be there....but Davros would be so much cooler.

I guess I am potentially going to be the wet blanket here in this thread.
Nobody outside of the production crew really knows the context in which Billie Piper's character is going to return to the Doctor Who storyline. IMHO, it would be a mistake to undo the emotional and practical underpinnings left in place at the conclusion of the "Doomsday" episode.
This would be like Star Trek bringing back Edith Keeler to Jim Kirk's world (City on the Edge of Forever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_City_on_the_Edge_of_Forever_%28TOS_episode%29) ), or Eline to Jean Luc Picard's realm (The Inner Light (http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/series/TNG/episode/68556.html)).
Sally Sparrow (Blink (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blink_%28Doctor_Who%29)) would be a far better choice than Rose Tyler. At least Sally is already in the same universe as the Doctor, and she would be the ideal Companion (along with Larry Nightingale) after the villian(s) are routed by the end of the three part finale.
And an aside: It looks as if Rose carries the record for most solo Companion adventures since the series' revival in 2005. I counted 16 episodes in which she was the sole companion for the majority of the stories broadcasted. Martha Jones comes in second place with 9 (10 if you count the animated story "The Infinite Quest). Mickey Smith never traveled solo with the Doctor (he does have the distinction of being the second human to TARDIS travel with the Timelord in the new series adventures), and neither did Captain Jack Harkness (all of his adventures were shared along with Rose and Martha).
I suspect that Donna will get at least 8 solo adventures before the other Companions start muscling in on the action. I wonder how they are going to do the opening titles? :P
Well that's a good reason for me to watch past the first few episodes because with Catherine Tate in it, I was going to watch the first 2 episodes or so and if she bugged the hell out of me as she did in Runaway bride, I was going to give up on who for now.
But next to Zoey, My favorite companion is Rose.
........and the reason for that is........ummmm......ahhhh......well
in a word?......... lust. LOL

From a pure lust standpoint, it's hard to ignore Peri. ;)

She nearly practically stolen the scene prior to Five's regeneration into the Sixth Doctor! All that wondrous cleavage!
