We had a very small earthquake in Indiana this morning, and it's hilarious how all the TV stations are interrupting regular programming to "report" on the quake. It was only 5.2 on the Richter, and there were no deaths or damage. This isn't the type of news that merits interrupting regular programming.

Makes me think of the scene in the movie L.A. Story where everyone ignores the earthquake that happens in the middle of their luncheon at a restaurant.

This happened to a friend of mine- I forget what state. They were in a panic because a minor earthquake hit. At the time I was living in California - and had it happended to me it would have been like the scene in Independance Day where Will Smith woke up as the ship flew over head, and his girlfriend said "it's just a (I forget the magnatude) go back to sleep.

I guess I shouldn't be too hard on them. I spent the first 17 years of my life living on the San Andreas Fault in California, and it wasn't unusual to have small quakes once or twice a month. It's very rare here in the Midwest, although I have read that there is a major faultline hereabouts, and there was a really major quake 100 or so years ago.

Maybe they're afraid Indiana will fall off into the ocean.

The fear is that one day the New Madrid fault will turn much of the inland south into gulf front property.

Did you feel Monday's quake? We didn't notice it.

It did wake me. I have a large armoire that houses the TV in my bedroom, and it rattled the doors on the armoire. Once I sat up, I realized the bed was also shaking. If it wasn't for the noise, I might have slept through it. But then, I wake if a pin drops, so who knows.
