Lately I'm into old movie serials. I've been buying and watching them, mostly on DVD but also on video if that's all I can find.
I began with the 1943 serial "The Masked Marvel". I could only find copies on VHS, but it was unique in that the hero's identity was unknown until the very end of the serial.
The next one was "Batman", also from 1943. It had a lot of anti-semetic references in it since it was WW II, and even mentioned how wise the government was to lock up Orientals in this country at that time.
I'm currently watching "Batman and Robin", from 1949. Since the war was over it isn't into oriental bashing. It looks funny to see Batman and Robin riding in an ordinary car. In one chapter Vicki Vale notices that Batman and Robin are riding in Bruce Wayne's car. She asks Batman "Does Bruce Wayne know you're driving his car?" Batman answers, "Why, of course".
Next up are the Superman movie serials and the Adventures of Captain Marvel one.
