You know, for the longest time, I'd always wanted to get a TV over 40 inches with full 1080p high-def resolution. Of course, such a thing would've EASILY cost over 1200 bucks, before optional warranty costs.

I have a nice 23 inch Zenith HD tv (flat panel) which I bought a couple of years ago, for about 1200 bucks, after warranty costs. However, this came out before the advent of HDMI inputs. The highest resolution it could get was 1080i, which is nothing to sneeze at, and I still love it.

However, tonight, I found an HD PC monitor (flat panel) that had full 1080p resolution at 24 inches. Now it's not an HDTV...it's a PC monitor that just happens to have High-Def capability. Not only does it have the input for a PC, but it also has an HDMI input, a composite input, a component input, and an S-video input.

It's the Gateway FHD2400...and this thing is a BEAUT to behold while functioning, and she's lovely even when off.

I have my PS3 already hooked up to it. Will hook up my Xbox 360 later. But all I can say whilst watching the PS3 in action on this little beauty....WOW!!!!! The picture is simply gorgeous! And that's just for the games. I have yet to run a blu-ray movie through this puppy. I know that most PS3 games run at 720p, but there are some downloadable games that will run at 1080p, and they are stunning.

Thankfully, I can run audio output from the component source on my PS3, while the video comes from the HDMI. (I need to get the optional 24inch audio bar for this monitor, before I can let HDMI do the full audio/video function.

The control buttons on the front right side of this monitor are soft-touch, and they bring up controls that allow you to adjust your picture as necessary. This thing is right out of Star Trek, I tell ya', LOL!

Oh, and it only cost $549. I need to get the warranty for it, but couldn't quite afford that tonight. Will pick that up soon.

My 23 inch is an HDTV that just happens to have PC monitor functionality. My new 24 inch is a PC monitor that just happens to have HD functionality, and the inputs to support it. I'm not even using it as a PC monitor. This is going to be my Hi-Def output for my games consoles.

Good Lord, a PC HD monitor that's slightly bigger than my old HDTV, gets maximum HD resolution, and costs HALF as much! Frackin' shaweet!

My 23 inch will still serve as my gaming PC's monitor, as it gets awesome resolution for my Gateway FX7240 PC. It will also support my PS2 and my Gamecube.

But this new Hi-Def PC monitor? It's gonna be the video screen of choice for my PS3 and 360.

Lovin' it! LOVIN' IT!!!!

Thanks, Dev. So far, it seems worth every bit of the $549 it cost. ($598 after tax....tax down here in Louisiana is through the roof.)

Yeah... I had my eye on that for over a year and a half, but I just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger, mainly cause the price was considerably more then I was prepared to spend. But I settled for a Samsung 22" that has been working great.

I may still end up getting one those Gateways though! I really like them!

The price for these things can be a bit daunting, Mal. (I do not mean to brag, but I must admit, the nature of my gigs down on Bourbon St really allow me to save up for things like this with almost lightning speed. If I really wanted to hold out, I could've gotten a 47" screen, but as I look at my small, and rather cramped sleeping room, I wonder, where in the heck would I put it?! LOL! I could wall mount it, but I don't like monkeying around the walls on a place that isn't owned by me to begin with. :) )

I wasn't anticipating getting this monitor for at least another week, but thanks to a windfall of gigs that came my way, I had enough for this puppy in two days. (I gotta say, I loves my gigs.) :)

Another nice thing about this monitor, as you can clearly see just from the image, is that if you wanted to run a couple more monitors like this for those games that have panoramic view capability, I'm sure the overall image would be nothing short of breathtaking.

My older 23 inch HDTV wouldn't quite be conducive to such a set up, because it's too wide on the frame.

Between my HD monitor, my HDTV, my 2 PSP's, my two flip screen 5" monitors for video game consoles, another standard PC monitor I have, and my laptop screen, if I set them up right, I could have what looks like a cockpit for a small starship. LOL! (I might just endeavor such a set up, simply to take a picture of it.) :)

Thanks, Nathan. :)

And, Mal, I am already brewing in my head how I am wanting to configure such a shot. I know it would also involve a couple of flight controllers I own. :D

OK...I was going to make a smart-aleck remark about your "mine's-bigger-than-yours" post or something in poor taste about how size does matter, but I won't go there.;)

Moi? What did I do to have the delight of your return to the forums?
Of course, it is lovely to see you back. I only actually joined the Tombs a little while back. Are you returning to the Fleets too?

Continues waving with a :D

I would love to return to the fleets. However, I am no longer using the email address I registered to the fleets under and I cannot remember for the life of me what my password was. I have sent a request to the webmaster a few days ago and have not heard a response. Julix is working with me on the same issue on Laurette's forums, but there appears to be a ban on my IP address there.:eek::eek:

Hopefully I will be in Fleets again soon. If I do not hear anything from CF folk soon, I have a plan b. :D

Wishing you lots of luck with re-establishing your membership on the Fleets!;)

Now...do you ever take that smouldering weed out of your mouth?
I thought you gave up the fumerellos?
What's that in your hand in your avatar?HMMMMMMMM??????????

I have, indeed, given up furmellos, but they were once such a part of me, and I must admit, I do miss them.

I think I watched too many Bogart and Cary Grant movies. I used ot make entrances in rooms with a cigarette, I used to pose while lighting. My goodness! There are even ways to exhale the smoke to appear aloof, angry, sad, contemplative, etc.

True, they gave me a heart attack, but they also make a versatile prop to carry with you in the stage of life.

I assure you, though, the only leaves that enter my life are in my tea and my salad these days.

Well, I guess everyone has a vice.;)
The tea and salad wil do you far more good though!

Hope your health is better these days, Pat.
