GAMES IT COULD BE COMPARED TO: Tomb Raider series

DETAILS: OMG!!!! I don't mean to gush, but WOW!!!! This game is visually, audibly, and gameplay-wise sheerly gorgeous! You feel like you're in an epic action adventure, treasure hunting tale (one that I hope Lara Croft Tomb Raider series takes some SERIOUS notes from). And that's saying something because when it comes to Tomb Raider, let's just say it's one of the very few things I actually get fanboyish about.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune delivers so far in just about every way... exploration, action, and the feel of being in a PG-13 big screen adventure.

Visually this game is a feast, and I have to say, probably THE BEST looking game I've ever seen in my life. Environments are lush, large, ambient, and alive. Everything from water, to trees, to structures...all of it, very realistic, maintaining just enough of that tell tale CGI feel to remind you that this is indeed a videogame. And character animation is so life-like, you would swear you were controlling real human beings. (Thanks to mo-cap technology, and quality actors and actresses who really bring the game to life). The expressions on the characters' faces are nothing short of stunning. Immediately, you forgo the notion that they're just a collection of polygons with a voice slapped onto them. No....you get the sense that they are real people, with the same caveat applying that they look just enough like CGI characters to remind you that you are playing a game.

Audibly, this game excels. Character dialogue is naturalistic, even during gameplay. (Right down to the very PG-13 level language.) Ambient sounds are wonderous. Gun sounds, explosions....everything done nicely...again, creating that immersive feel that you're in the equivalent of a PG-13 action adventure flick.

Controls are finely tuned, and intuitive. You'll be mastering Nathan Drake's moves in no time.

There are also Treasures, Medals, and Rewards that you find and unlock as the game progresses.

This game plays very much like Tomb Raider in some respects...and again, I do hope that, visually, the next TR game takes notes from the techniques used in this game.

BOTTOM LINE: The game's got action, drama, and tongue in cheek comedy....and if you're a sucker for a good adventure tale, then Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is your interactive dream come true....well...until they improve on Tomb Raider. :D

Can you elaborate on what kind of PG-13 language you're talking about?

is it "transformers PG-13" or worse?

Basically....

Damn, Goddamn, Hell, Shit, Bullshit, and Son of a Bitch.

They're frequent, but not exactly overused either. Again, they're used in a manner consistent with a PG-13 movie of similar nature.

The voice acting in this game is top notch. I'm sure that the actors and actresses who did the mo-cap work played out the scenes as if it were written like a movie, because it definitely shows in the cutscenes. And even in the in-game dialogue as you go through the levels...the dialogue is naturalistic. It doesn't feel scripted.

As a follow up report....I've played through a lot of this game, and it never ceases to amaze me....or make me laugh. Seriously, whoever wrote the story for this did a good job....even if he or she did borrow some tongue in cheek cliches to make it work....it does work. It really feels like you're playing a role in a high adventure movie.

Respectfully,

Have been fancying this game for awhile having seen the promos months ago on the playstation website.

But am also fancying John Woos Stranglehold as well which looks like it could be every bit Drakes equal in terms of action and graphics.

With money being somewhat short at present I can't see myself gettin this so I guess it will have to go on the Christmas List lol.

I recently perchased the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare game for PS3 which is fantastic only a little on the short side in single player mode.

Yes, COD4 kicks ass. Play through the single player modes in higher difficulties. You'll likely not get through the game so fast. Also, if you unlocked things like "Arcade Mode", it's a great way to replay your favorite chapters, or the entire game, and try to set a high score for yourself, then try to beat it. :)

I just picked up another Xbox 360...so my two, along with my roomie's 360 makes for 3 360's in the house....and since myself, my roomie, and his girlfriend now all have copies of Halo 3 and COD 4....well, let's just say NONE of us will be getting any sleep. :)

I've been babysitting a friends dogs for the past couple of days and he has COD4 on his PC. I played the single player mode all the way through on the first night and now I'm having lots of fun with the "Death from Above" scenario. It's a blast just blowing stuff up :D

That's one of my favorite missions to replay, HobartFloyt..."Death From Above". That one, and "Shock and Awe", because you get to shoot the Mk19 auto-cannon from a helicopter, and blow stuff up good. :D
