View Full Version : A suitable case for treatment...or a mercy killing!

Folks...prepare to be appalled.

This video is of a little kid (probably 8-10 years of age) who is playing Halo with his brothers. His older bro is probably about 15-17.

Anyhoo, this kid is clearly upset that he's losing. But the impotent rage he explodes with is nigh psychotic.

Vanamonde, you may have seen this video at XBLR. That's where I got this thread from.

The poster posed the question: "How would you handle this kid?"

Well...here's the video...

First....I would NEVER let that little ******* around anything valuable of mine....considering how he seems to just grab $400.00+ equipment, and just throw it down like no care in the world. He would be stuck in his room with NOTHING of considerable monetary value to entertain him. I'd let him stick with Star Wars figures, or what not.....but certainly, I would never let that little frak have ANY high dollar electronic equipment.

Second....I'd seriously get psychiatric help for the little punk. (That or a frackin' exorcist.) (Didn't it seem eerie when the little frak was lying on the floor, spazzing out, and the Halo theme strains over the speakers?)

Third....I'd probably ***** slap (or perhaps throttle) the two other family members that were exacerbating the situation with smart ass comments, instead of trying to calm him down, and then send his ass to his room.

Little Kid: "WWHHYYYYYYY???!!!!"
Older brother/dad?: "Because you suck."

I mean....come on. The kid's freaking out over bulls**t...and you're just gonna egg him on? I wouldn't put up with it.

Something tells me this is a highly dysfunctional family. Especially if they're willing to stoop so low as to put this video on the internet, so that the kid will be EMBARRASSED FOR FRACKING LIFE!!!

(I predict the kid will commit suicide in two years.)

This kid is a perfect argument for why I would NEVER let someone that young, and THAT mentally disturbed around my valuable equipment.

This reminds me of the story I heard about a little kid who had heard that he was getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas. He demanded his Xbox right then, right frackin' now. When his dad told him that he had to wait until Christmas, the little kid KICKS his dad's $2000 stereo system.

The dad handled it FAR better than I would have. The dad simply goes to his work, and even announces on the radio that he has an Xbox 360 to sell to anyone who's interested, for $400.00, but he needs to keep the package box. The little kid doesn't know this.

And then, the dad fills the box full of rocks. I can only imagine the kid's expression when instead of opening an Xbox, he opens X-rocks.

Thoughts, anyone?

If I was the parent, the XBox would be on the shelf at Goodwill.

The older brothers would lose their car keys probably too. And everyone would be playing board games and doing household chores until they learned to respect each other a bit.

Glad to see someone else recognizes that the older 2 are equally responsible. TOO often I've seen posts about this video that only holds the younger one accoutnable for his actions and doesn't take into consideration that the older 2 boys are gleefully tormenting the younger one

Once again, Jewels nails it. You're so young (albeit a year older than me) to be so sagacious.

Yeah, I think blaming this on the video game or the kid is not looking at the whole picture.

It is obvious that the other two idiots had been tormenting the little one well before the video started and did nothing to change that while the video was running. Infact, they did everything to get the kid to spaz out even more. I also don't believe it was isolated to this one time. My guess is, those two have been poking at the kid for a long time, based on statements early in the video.

As for blaming the video game, thats just BS. It could very well have been the same if they were playing Monopoly or some other game.

Frankly, I would say that this was a borderline case of abuse.

I agree, Mal. As I pointed out in my initial post, I think this is a highly dysfunctional family. I mean, they'd have to be if the older brothers were idiotic enough to put this out on the internet for the whole world to see.

I have to ask another question:

What in the hell was an 8-10 year old doing playing an M-rated title anyway? (M = Mature, for 17 and above.)

Before anyone answers that....let me just point out that it is more a rhetorical question than a straight up indignation. I mean, I go online, and I hear young children all the time on the voice chats in these games. Anywhere from 7-12 years of age. The parents buy the games for these kids, probably blissfully ignorant of the content descriptors and ratings on the box. Halo's not exactly noted for strong language, but the blood and violence are enough to warrant the M-rating.

Back on track, again, I agree with Mal that this could very well be a case of abuse. For one thing, the parents would have a LOT to answer for, if they knew (which I'm sure they do) that the child was acting out in such a manner. It might not be physical abuse...but it certainly does seem like mental abuse. Yes, apparently the events in this video had been going on longer than what was shown at the beginning of the tape. It was "in media res", as it were. Pat, the youngest brother, wanted to play Xbox 360 by himself. His older brother was saying: "Nope, unless you can kill me once."

Ironically, nowadays it seems the norm that the 6-12 year old set are the ones with the mad skillz to play these games, but this apparently was not the case here. Pat lacked the skillz, probably because his older siblings would rarely let him play the Xbox...at least, when the parents weren't around. All of them seemed to be under 17, but the older two brothers were obviously at least more emotionally matured (and I say that in the loosest sense of the word, given their behavior around Pat). I cannot believe they had the noblest of intentions of not allowing Pat to play the game alone, because the parents weren't there. If they did, they would simply say: "Pat, our parents aren't here, and we don't think it's a good idea for you to play these games without them here, so go to your room."

(As an aside, you'll find lots of us adult players who are disgusted everytime we hear a 10 year old squawking away on the Xbox Live chat while playing Halo 3.)

I just hope that all three got their just deserts for behaving like jackasses....and especially whomever it was that put that video online...let alone filmed it in the first place.
